Description: This fictional and theatrical segment explores the debate over American government using multiple sources including the landmark decision Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. 137 (1803); The Federalist Papers; and United States v. Nixon, 418 U.S. 683. It provides a historical perspective of the competing visions of executive authority, legislative power, and the role of the judiciary in its enduring struggle to define the balance of power. As Chief Justice Marshall stated: “A law repugnant to the constitution is void.” The play is presented as part of the 27th Judicial Conference of the Eighth Judicial District.
